Canadian Citizens
Canadian citizens DO NOT require a visa to visit The Bahamas and may remain for a maximum period of 8 months.
All travelers must have the following items:
- A Canadian passport, with an expiry date that is NOT less than 3 months, after leaving The Bahamas (for direct travel) and NOT less than 6 months (if transiting through other countries such as the U.S.)
- A return ticket
- Confirmed hotel or cruise reservation; or letter of invitation to stay at host’s home
Where a minor child is traveling with only one parent, a notarized letter of permit from the parent not travelling may be requested.
Canadian Permanent Residents
Permanent Residents of Canada (formerly known as Landed Immigrants) may stay in The Bahamas for 30 days without a visa.
All travelers must have the following items:
- A valid passport from your country of origin of which expiry date, after return from The Bahamas, must NOT be less than 3 months (for direct travel) and NOT less than 6 months (if transiting through other countries such as the U.S.)
- An original Canadian Permanent Resident card of which the expiry date must NOT be less than 3 months (for direct travel) and NOT less than 6 months (if transiting through other countries such as the U.S.)
- A return ticket
- Confirmed hotel or cruise reservation; or letter of invitation to stay at host’s home
Refugees with Canadian Travel Documents
The Canadian Travel Document may be used in lieu of a National Passport for entry into The Bahamas provided the expiry date, after return from The Bahamas is NOT less than 3 months (for direct travel) and NOT less than 6 months (if transiting through other countries such as the U.S.)
A Bahamian visa may be required based on the origin country of the traveler. Please review countries which require a visa to enter The Bahamas to determine eligibility.
Please note that travelers holding a valid Canadian Permanent Residence Card do NOT require a visa to enter The Bahamas.
Travelers who do not have a valid Permanent Residence Card and require a visa must submit a visa application for processing. Please visit “General Visa Requirements” for an application form and a list of all supplementary documents required.
Canadian travel document holders transiting through other countries must call the relevant embassies for information regarding traveling with a travel document.
Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents, and Canadian refugees transiting through other countries, such as the United States, should contact the relevant embassies regarding their entry/visa requirements for that country.
Extending Your Stay
Any visitor wishing to extend their stay in The Bahamas, is advised to contact their nearest Bahamian Immigration Office.
Documentation to be submitted upon request:
- Proof that you can financially sustain yourself for the extended period;
- A valid passport or travel document.
- A return ticket.
